Artist Statement I've been involved with photography for over 30 years beginning as a high school and university staff photographer. While working in London, I started using disposable cameras to document my experiences and impressions during bike rides to and from work.
The disposables offered an inexpensive solution in equipment as well as portability and simplicity in film developing while traveling. Further, these cameras demanded more attention to light and composition due to their photographic limitations
For the most part, I've given up the disposables for a Canon DSLR but remain a purist at heart, believing that a camera itself doesn’t necessarily make for a good photograph, but the eye and experience of the one taking the photo.
A photograph records a single moment in one's life when one is present and truly seeing. To speak of it later is never enough. Capturing the moment keeps it living in the photographer's memory; to have someone else see a photograph and feel something from it is a precious form of communication from photographer to viewer. It is Eyespeak.
