To shoot in B&W or convert???

As you all may know I am new to this group...
I was wondering what your thought s are about shooting b&W in camera 
or converting in Photoshop, Lightroom2, NX2 or whatever program you use..
I use a D1x for most of my B&W... I shoot ISO 800 in camera mono always trying
to recreate the look of pushed Kodak tri -x.
If I do want to convert when using D300's for everything else In cs4...
