Now that this group is starting to grow some with new members, it would be nice for us to have a spot where we can formally introduce ourselves, so please take the time to say hello and share with us a little of your personal history.

To start with, my name is David Blaine Clemons. I have been a working commercial artist for over thirty years. Off and on through that time I have had gallery exhibitions of my personal work, and I am now concentrating on that aspect of my career full-time. Specifically in regards to inking, I have used it commercially in advertising, illustration, and film/TV storyboards. It is my hope to include some more formal works into my exhibition catalog as I make more new pieces.

For such a simple and direct medium, I am enthralled by how versatile ink can be. I have used a range of different types and tools of inking, from gall ink and sumi-e, to markers,  so hopefully I can assist anyone who has questions, but there is always more to learn from others. Thanks to all of you for joining the group, and I look forward to hearing more from you.

Hallo Inkers, my name is Enrico Bonilauri and I'm an Italian architect.
I've been doing ink travel sketches for the last six to seven years. In 2007 I've started a series of architecture drawings using dark grey ink with a watercolor technique. So far I've just drawn existing building, but I'm planning to mix this technique with actual watercolors for my own future designs.

I'd like to hear some critical feedback from other artists who use similar technique.

Cheers,

Enrico

Welcome, Enrico. I enjoyed looking at your work.

Some inks are more water resistent than others so they'll work differently with watercolors than those that are more water-soluble. Sumi-e ink is very much like watercolor, for example. You might also consider using colored inks as well. If so, pay attention to the brands that use pigmented ink rather than dyes. There are even new lines of acrylic inks out there you could experiment with. Otherwise, you should be able to mix in color without much trouble.

One thing about your paintings of buildings in your gallery that appeals to me is the absence of lines and only using shades of gray. I'd be curious to see how you maintain that if you combine ink with watercolors. I hope to see some examples from you soon.
