Descriptionlinoleum print 31 x 43 cmAfter a visit to the Il Florilegio Circus (Darix Togni) from Italy, i got very inspired by the dancing dogs. Although the dogs were very happy and found it great fun do do their tricks, it also felt like something sad.
Martine Pieck, Amsterdam Member Since April 2009 Artist Statement Exploring identity is the red tape through all work of Martine Pieck (1967). In her early days (1992 - 1998), she focused on the human figure, merging themes of adolescence, sexuality, and social acceptance. Drawing on both personal experience and current affairs, she created an interpretation of controversial issues of the day which provided a platform for exploration and research of the concept of personal identity.
Also in her recent work identity is the main source of inspiration – she continues to explore how it is formed from within and how it is influenced by the outside. Her focus has shifted to mundane objects - by placing them in a particular context, she aims to create a thought-provoking and fascinating perspective. Martine Pieck lives and works in Amsterdam.
