Artist Statement I was raised in Roseburg, Oregon in a very conservative religious family. I spent a lot of my free time hiking in the Umpqua National Forest and in the forested pasture areas on my folks' ranch. I would sketch interesting rock outcroppings, trees, mountains, abandoned structures like cabins and corals as well as wildlife and ranch animals. My repertoire also included coastal scenes, sailing vessels and images from Greco-Roman mythology.
I married in 1992 and moved up to Portland, Oregon where a vast smorgasbord of ethnic, spiritual and cultural diversity was waiting. I didn't truly get to experience it all until I was divorced from Sam ten years later--when I think back, I can perceive how my creativity was stiffled in those years.
Free at thirty-six, I now began to explore my environment, so rich in wonderful diversity and in doing so I began to truly explore who I really am--a strong, beautiful, bi-sexual woman, committed to social change, environmental sustainability and bringing forth the image of Gaia and the concept that humanity IS part of nature in my work.
