About the Artist:

Mr. Lubell is a widely collected printmaker who specializes in the etching processes of aquatint and chine colle. Over the past fifteen years he has worked at several printmaking studios in the New York City region, working with leading figures including, Bob Blackburn, Claudio Vaurez, Jan Carlisle, Michael Pelliteri, Laurie Ourlicht, and Vijay Kumar, amongst others.

His subjects include the human pageant along the streets and parks of New York City, the beaches and harbors of Long Island and New England, and the fields and marketplaces of the Caribbean..

Several awarding winning editions capture the poignancy of city life. His neighbors in Brooklyn walk, thrive, play, chat, and flirt among the ubiquitous brownstones and parks of their urban villages. Although we often can’t see their faces of his subjects, their gestures and movement reveal their universal joy and struggle

A love of the sea and beaches is revealed in a wide collection of editions. From the bays of Maine, to the Charles River basin of Boston, and the Rockaway Inlets out of Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, his sailing etchings portray the inner pleasure of the sport. The imagery of the beach was nurtured by timeless afternoons spent growing up on the south shore of Long Island, and the etchings are reminders of these eternal moments.

His etchings of Caribbean life are drawn from his personal experience. His wife Selena is Jamaican, and they’ve spent vacations at her childhood home in the hillside country of her native land. The editions remind the viewer of a nostalgic time when life in the islands was simpler and working the fields more honored.
