Artist Statement Jake lives in the Texas Hill Country near San Antonio. Limestone, clear water and Cypress trees abound, but most of Jake's works are found in back alleys, small towns, the barrios, and in San Antonio or wherever else he roams.

Jake was an oil and gas landman for three years and travelled the state from Hidalgo and Starr counties to the Texas Panhandle. "My camera was in my car or on my person at all times. I wore out two digital cameras during that time period. Return trips home regularly took four or five extra hours because of all the stopping for shots."

Jake has been awarded recognition on local, regional and national levels. In October 2009 an image of a Cypress tree and it's knotted and gnarled roots dipping into the shallow green waters of the Sabinal River was awarded First Place recognition and a gold medal in the National VA Creative Arts Festival in San Antonio.

Jake uses his eye to capture the unusual as well as the commonplace things that we all 'see, but don't see". Jake humorously says that critics write that his work is likened to a 'downward spiral with much promise".
He jokes and is quoted as frequently saying .."Everything is a picture and every picture is a thing." and "When you see it, click the shutter because it won't be there tomorrow". He recently reminisced that after shooting a painted hobby horse behind the seventy year old wooden mohair building in Comfort, Texas on Thursday that the building burned to the ground overnight. "I went back immediately on Friday, and the only thing left standing was the horse...but it was still great shooting because over the smoking orange embers was a shot of the volunteer fire department across the street!"

Jake humorously states that his wife says "If this obsession doesn't begin paying for itself, you will have to go back to needle pointing." Jake's plans are to begin selling to stock agencies, advertising agencies and publishers. Take the time to look at some of his pieces and you might be surprised, amazed, or tickled, but most certainly you will not be bored.
