Carol Monaco, Brighton Member Since March 2010 Artist Statement I am a nature and outdoor photographer, specializing in intimate wildlife photographs that aim to draw in the viewer and convey a sense of the animal’s spirit and his or her world. Nine years ago I took my first nature photography course and have been photographing seriously ever since then; my photography is motivated by a strong desire to share the natural world with others and to encourage conservation in my work and travels. My particular passions include photographing endangered species, birds, and large predators. The beauty of patterns in nature and architecture is also part of my work. In my wildlife photography, I strive to capture animal behavior unique to a particular species in order to further communicate the animal’s world to the viewer.
I especially enjoy traveling to wild places to capture wildlife images, both in the U.S. and around the world, and I have photographed polar bears in Manitoba, Canada and wildlife in Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Galapagos and Panama, as well as throughout the United States. My most recent trips were to Antarctica, British Columbia and India.
I support several animal organizations with my photography, including the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg, CO, the Boulder Humane Society, and Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation in Longmont, CO.
