Description The Grant House was built in 1849, during the time Ulysses S. Grant was an Army Brevet Captain at Fort Vancouver, WA. Although he never lived in the house, he probably watched it being built. It served as the commanding officer's home until the Marshall House was built in 1886. Original timbers are visible inside some rooms. It now houses a restaurant, and is the oldest building extant in the Fort Vancouver National Reserve. It was renamed in his honor during a visit in 1879. Replicas of historic U.S. flags are displayed across the south porch.
