Artist Statement Desiree Sia Franco. (b.1974 - ) Third daughter born to Resurrecto Franco and Senen Franco on May 17, 1974. Expressed early interest in art at the age of five. Has two brothers and two elderly sisters. Had a iron deficiency corrected by doctor in Manila, Philippines since mother unaware she was pregnant. Mom took advice from doctor to name me "Desiree" since it was more romantic. Family moved from Philippines to California in 1981.
Studied in Plummer Elementary, Sepulveda Jr. High, St. Genevieve and pursued art at Valley College, Pierce College and Mission College. Started with paper dolls, anime and watercolors. Graduated to acrylics and digital art. Older brother Ron started video game content company and familiarized myself to photoshop and illustrator.
Inspired by Amano Yoshitaka, Luis Royo, Nene Thomas, Mark Ryden, Micheal Parkes and Toki Doki bags. Diagnosed schizophrenic, had a mental lapse at a nearby mental ward. Recovered and is active around holidays. Dad got stroke and went back to Philippines. Stayed in California but gets inspired with trips to Las Vegas, Disneyland, and abroad.
Currently do digital art with my graphics tablet in Oxnard, CA.
