Description First off, I want to let you know that a 20% of the portion of this picture's sales will go to the fight against breast cancer. This is the second in a series of candlelight reflections, symbolic of the reflections of ourselves in others, recreated in an infinite number of ways, some distorted, some more beautiful, and some so far away we will never know. This is dedicated to my cousin Mary in memory of her valiant fight against breast cancer. Her life will never be over, though she is gone, because her life, like the candle's flame, reflects in the lives of all those whom she touched and who loved her.
Susan Cypher, Grand Junction Member Since March 2009 Artist Statement I am an eclectic artist, with my first love being music, as The Nightbird (music is available online at CD Baby). However, my husband and I both love photography (his work will be included, as well). One of our first dates was a photography shoot while he was taking a class, with me as his "model." He is my drummer now, as well, and our ultimate plan is to combine our art and music into a whole stage show, along with dance. I was very excited to find this community and plan to upload more of our visual work as we go along.
I also want to note that I am a member of the Art For Cancer Group, and the sale of certain pictures in my gallery are going to help fight Breast Cancer, a disease that has taken too many beautiful women from my life, and caused others countless pain.
As to my art, I have a fascination with lights in the dark, reflection, and shadow, which is why my first gallery here represents my work this last year with candlelight. I love the surreal effect one gets when taking the picture of something at night, and I love the microcosm of things--a single flower, the shape of a shadow, or the pattern of leaves. My husband, on the other hand, loves the macrocosm, loving the entire view, trying to get that perfect overall image.
Thank you for coming by. I hope you enjoy our work :) As I go along, I will be offering some of my husband's wonderful work, as well.
