Description The vast salt pans of Namibia's Etosha National Park are pretty impressive all by themselves, but with this lone giraffe making is solitary journey across them & the horizon thick with the dust that accumulates towards the end of the winter as the pans await the summer rains made a truly special composition.
Fiona MacKay Member Since December 2009 Artist Statement It would be fair to say some things are in your blood, or meant to be, and for me thats Africa. I grew up watching every documentary the BBC could think of on wildlife and africa, although it took till I was almost 20 till I actually went there in person, however that was all it took & I was hooked, in fact I stayed much to the shock of friends and family back in the UK. I had the privilage to live and work in the Greater Kruger National Park in South Africa for over 4 years, managing a game lodge and living immersed in the african bush. I'd always enjoyed photography but surrounded 24/7 by such amazing subjects it became a serious passion. Although I no longer live full time in the african bush I spend as much time there as I possibly can. Over the years I've been fortunate enough to travel to some amazing places, met some extraordinary people and have the opportunity to do many things others can only dream of. This past year alone I spent 10 days walking 160Km through the Okavango Delta, a feat very few living people can claim to have accomplished, but such an adventure allowed me to really delve into the heart of this fabulous place and I hope you can share some of my more magical moments through my photographs. I think conservation is incredibly important and I hope by sharing what I have experienced with you I can encourage more people to stand and support the ongoing battle to preserve the worlds wild places for future generations.
