Artist Statement DRIP OIL FACES A drip oil is...? A drip oil is a non-descript set of colors and shapes that represent no meaning as a whole. These partterns show up in your mind in a recognizable form that you can draw. How is this done? The oil is mixed thinly and applied to the canvas by pouring, brushing, or spreading the oil around. Now the canvas is totally undefinable. This is where I begin. When I locate a shape I can work with, I draw it without crossing a line, being mindful not to do so much that other faces cannot be seen in the same picture. you have one chance only. I don't know if the subconscious picks the shapes and sizes to draw, but sometimes they turn out very strange. Once the face is identified and drawn, the body is then deliberately drawn to scale. Nevertheless, the end result is unknown, even to me. Why drip oil faces? the face, the first thing we see in the norning, the thing we kiss goodnight. Every face is different. The significance of the face... ...face to face... face up to it... face the music...face the nation...face this head on...pretty, ugly, fat face...right, left, about face...wash your face...he's making a face at me...on the face it's a good deal...she has her long face on...she won't show her face around here ...she had a face lift...they put a new face on it...
