Gigi Moore, Chesapeake, Va Member Since December 2006 Artist Statement Greetings,
I'm Gretchen Moore, you can call me Gigi, I'm a freelance children's illustrator and portrait painter. I was born and raised in Chesapeake, Va. My God-given talent was recognized at an early age and nurtured by my parents. My parents, said I would wake up late at night and take out my coloring books and crayons, sit at the kitchen table; without saying a word, and just start drawing and coloring.
With constant guidance from God, I was blessed to attend Moore College Art & Design in Philadelphia; where I received my B.F.A in Illustration. I have exhibited my work at contests and museums. I'm currently a member of SCBWI, Illustrator's Club, and Tidewater Artists Alliance.
My biggest influences and inspirations comes from artists such as: N.C. Wyeth, Norman Rockwell, Charles Santore, and Peter de Seve to name a few. My favorite books are Shel Silverstein's book "A Light in the Attic", and "The Lord's Prayer Psalms 23", illustrated by Tim Ladwing.
My style is whimsical, fun, with bold color. I work traditionally in watercolors. I love creating children illustrations, and making up characters, creating little stories about each character. I have written and illustrated seven children's poems, and I'm currently working on two children's stories. One called "Josie, One Saturday Morning", and the second called "Dreamer Joe" and I'm also working on another little adventurous character, her name is "Casey Blue".
