Lori Skoumal Reeves, Pocatello,ID Member Since March 2009 Artist Statement Artist Statement I believe the basis of all my art is creative expression. The love I feel inside myself reveals itself through visuals that stem from a higher source. From this beauty of seeing, my paintbrush is guided through my talent. I enjoy expressing this gift. The spontaneous splash of color with water and the paint and the direction of a sensual line become a painting! Art has always been a part of my life beginning in my childhood when I won the small town grocery Easter Bunny coloring contest in Ralston, Nebraska. In my adult life, I knew I wanted to continue painting in watercolor after taking a class to update my teaching certificate at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. I graduated with Special Honors at the University of Colorado at Denver. After studying and teaching in the Midwest for 15 years, I am fortunate to reside in the artistic mecca of Chapel Hill, NC. There, I have my home studio. I designed and teach four painting classes: Beginning Watercolor, Continuing Watercolor, Painting Florals, and The Masters. The ArtsCenter, The Cedars, and Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools and Dist. #25 in Pocatello, ID have been an honor to teach in. I love living and painting in the South where the flowers are so beautiful. My students are beautiful, too. I have taught painters from the ages of 8 to 80. I have a home studio in Pocatello, Idaho where I can paint the majestic mountains and the western nature. My originals are available at www.LorisArt.com My prints are available at lorisart.imagekind.com. When I am in my home studio I love watching the colors (watercolor, water-soluble oils) move together with water. I use professional watercolor paper or varied kinds of canvas depending on the medium of choice and subject I am painting. My sensual work reflects beauty.
