Artist Statement Shaun Cameron dreamed of becoming a professional artist in the 70s while attending a fine arts high school. His dream was further encouraged when he submitted a painting to a prestigious juried art exhibition during his senior year and subsequently won "Best Painting Award" with a large oil painting that the museum's currator said was "one of the most beautiful representations of love" that she had ever seen. The artist's actual journey toward the realization of becoming an artist started, however, many years even before that when, at the age of seven, he won a painting prize for a watercolor of a cowboy in a city wide art competion. Some years later, he displayed a keen interest in medical illustration by keeping an art journal of renderings that he did for a biology class. About that same time, he also discovered the wonderful world of botanicals when his mother introduced him to the art of great naturalists such as John James Audobon, Redoute, and Lear. Most of his paintings and drawings through the years showed a great interest in the natural world. He was also interested in other subject matter though and would occasionally do drawings of famous people whom he personally admired, whether in the field of entertainment, sports, or otherwise.

Before entering college, Cameron went to France and studied art at the Julian Academy in Paris, the same art school where luminaries such as Edward Steichen, John Singer Sargent, Marcel DuChamp, Henri Matisse and many other notable artists studied. On weekends, he visited the great museums of Europe where he experienced the magnificent works of Renaissance artists, such as Jan Van Eyck and of modern painters, such as Matisse and Gauguin. In 1981, Cameron received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and won the "Intaglio Print Award" in the BFA graduate art exhibition. He then went on to do post graduate work at the Art Institute of Houston where he studied graphic design and illustration. Throughout most of the eighties, Cameron worked as a graphics designer. Since then, he has worked as an art instructor, designer, illustrator, painter, print maker, art appraiser, and art director. As of to date, the artist continues to teach and paint.

Cameron's paintings have been widely exhibited in solo shows as well as group shows. His works have been collected by companies and private collectors worldwide.
