Description Morning Fog, oil on canvas, 12' x 12' is part of an ongoing series of fog inspired paintings. I am fascinated by the coastal fog of Northern California. Having grown up in Houston, TX. I have never seen anything quite like the thick rolling fog found in the San Francisco Bay Area. I'm inspired by the moody and misty muting qualities of the fog yet trying to keep the colors in the painting vibrant. I have set this up as a challenge for my painting.I have set this up as a challenge. The painting is made up of countless layers of paint and glazing of color. This allows for the possibility of inner glow to appear.

Artist Statement About the Artist:

Victoria Veedell is a painter who captures the essence of nature by examining the effects of light on form in the natural world. Her paintings, vibrant and colorful abstractions of landscape, have been noted for their calming influence on the viewer, allowing for reflection. Victoria was born in Texas and received a BFA at Texas A & M and worked toward MA at NYU. In July 2014 she was an artist in residence at the Chalk Hill Artist Residency in Healdsburg, CA. Her past residencies include Vermont Studio Center, Vermont, Kamiyama Artist in Residence, Japan and the Chitraniketan Residency, India. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally in galleries and art centers and is included in many private and corporate collections. Victoria lives and works in San Francisco, CA.


Statement – Atmospheric Conditions


I explore how color and light affect space and the physical sense of place. For me Atmospheric Conditions are more than weather conditions, they elicit a personal response to the landscape. The setting of my work may be abstracted landscapes, but the root of my work is an emotional reaction to the environment. My paintings are based on nature, fashioned from memory and imagination, and imply landscapes not necessarily seen, but felt. I dissolve the landscape, leaving only what I consider to be the essence of nature. I hope to draw the viewer to the light and colors that radiate from the canvas and give them pause.
