Avia Terry, Tel-Aviv Member Since October 2007 Artist Statement Avia Terry –singer – songwriter as well as a painter
It is thirty years now that Avia realizes her musical inter-disciplinary talent. She started her studies in Sdeh Boker Teachers’ Seminar, and studied music education in the Music Academy in Tel-Aviv University. Among her senior teachers: Mira Zacai, Adi Etsion and also teachers from the Opera Metropolitan in New-York. In addition, Avia devoted her free time to painting and sculpture studies.
Since she finished her studies, Avia wrote many songs and composed melodies for them in a style combining soft rock with cabaret. She also performed with her own materials in the “Barby” club in Tel Aviv, in the Tel Aviv Museum as well as in tours in Israel and abroad with the Philharmonic Orchestra, with which she sang operas and concerts together with the Philharmonic choir of Tel-Aviv.
Avia gives voice lessons in “Hed” – The Academic Collage for Temporary Music in Tel-Aviv, and among her students are famous Israeli artists such as Din-din Aviv, Chemi Rodner, Yirmi Kaplan, Limor Goldstein and many others.
Avia is a soloist in “Allegra Ensemble”- singing Gypsy-Balkan style music. The ensemble performs in The Bible Museum in Jerusalem, in Giv’ataim Theatre, in Tel Aviv and all over the country.
Avia performs with the Tel-Aviv Big-Band Orchestra – singing classic jazz.
Currently she is working on a new disc based purely on her own materials, which will combine soft rock-style and cabaret style songs.
Lately, in a kind of a creative burst, as she defines it, Avia has discovered her painting talent and she experiences painting as a kind of mediation and healing. A similar experience is reported by most of the people observing her works.
Avia’s paintings are characterized by strong colorfulness, richness of details and creative imagination.
