Graham Humphries, Kent, UK Member Since July 2014 Artist Statement My art is as much about my passions and beliefs as it is about my dreams.
I returned to painting after a series of lucid dreams where I saw myself painting on huge canvasses. Once I started to paint again I experienced so many dreams about how to paint that I started to do it more and more.
I often paint people who've appeared to me in my dreams. In addition, with my paintings of Saints I pray about whether or not I should paint that person or not. As ridiculous as it sounds, once I know I can paint that person the painting just completes itself - with me as the spectator. It's the same with my non-saints too.
When I paint I am looking to get to know that person, to get a sense of what it was like to sit in the room with them. Each subject is different. With Padre Pio it was the clarity of purpose, an almost iron like sense of self-control and devotion. With JPII is was a sense of peace, prayerfulness and inner contentment.
Occasionally I paint celebrities for friends and family, which I'll post show online in due course.
