Artist Statement I have created art all my life. As a child I dreamed of being an artist and I am most content when involved in the act of creating.

Inspiration for the most part comes to me from both mythologies and my varied life experiences. Through my art I am most interested in finding universal truths and expressing them through various symbologies. I often begin a piece by dreaming it in a dream. Just as often, however, something will intrigue me to the point where I find that I must explore and interpret it through my art.

I am comfortable working with various media. However, for the past few years I have concentrated on painting in egg tempera and acrylics, and in mixed media work on wood or canvas. To me, meaning is shaped and created with colour and something very old can be described in a new way. Colour, shadow and light are extensively used in layers to describe ideas through the use of ancient and new lines and symbols. My art can be described as a spiritual journey through which I find fresh meaning in aspects of my dreamworld as well as my life experiences and the universal conflicts and realizations that are universally common to humanity.
In addition to being an artist Laura is a writer and a non-practising lawyer. She lives in East Vancouver where she has been raising her two grandchildren since 2001.
