Description This was taken at the 40 Watt Club in Athens, Georgia on September 12, 2006. It was at the Finest Worksongs benefit concert where many local artists were paying tribute to R.E.M. Many of us wondered if the band would show up. The 40 Watt doesn't usually get going until after 10 pm. R.E.M. went onstage and played two songs at about 8:30 pm. Most people that showed up never even got to see them do their mini-set. The biggest surprise is that original drummer Bill Berry joined them for the first time in over 10 years. They rocked. I was thrilled to get this shot and several others that the band used in their 2007 Fan Club calendar. The next week, the band was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall Of Fame and another year later, they joined the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. After their 2 songs, all the members except Bill Berry jammed with the local musicians until closing time. What a night!
