Natalie Spatola, Ottawa Member Since January 2013 Artist Statement Natalie is a native Canadian residing In the nation's capital of Ottawa, Ontario with her 6 children and pets. In addition to her photography she is a writer of poetry with some published works. There are many times that her poetry and photography merge. The results from this are nothing shy of magical. For that is how inspiration comes to her for both, often in dreams themselves or sudden spontaneous inspiration. Her poetry flows from her heart and soul and with it it reaches into the depths of the reader pulling them in on a journey. Her verbal use of imagery paints the scene for all. This realm of fantasy rooted in reality with voice given to people, creatures, nature, the elements, plus the stars and moon above.
Being a shutterbug all her life, Natalie was always taking pictures of random scenes and events that no one else thought to capture. Her gift is showing that which is overlooked by many and bringing to the viewer the raw beauty of nature and the world around you.. She looks not at the world around us through the eyes of an artist but through the soul of a lover. For truly the love of nature and the subjects she sees as the catalysts for her photos. Natalie likens the lens of her camera to an extension of her eyes and soul. She sees the world better through the lens then she does the naked eye for the lens does not distort or fool you. What you see is what you get. Many a time what is there seen by eye doesn't translate to the lens. The feeling and energy are lost so in those instances it is simply left alone and admired but not captured and recorded save by the heart.
Her world is always chaotic, often harried and usually stressful.. But above all it is beautiful, and that is what matters to her... Seeing the world and Nature through the lens is her small corner of heaven and her perfect slice of life.
