Artist Statement After studying at Exeter College of Art and Design, my route meandered, first by travelling for several months across America and Canada. Since then I have been fortunate to travel to many other countries and value these experiences as stimulus for my work.
I started by working in a healing capacity with elderly and infirm, then with mentally and physically disabled children, later teaching them art and photography, assisting also in starting up two houses for the then young adults .
Returning to my subject studied I started a photographic studio, thereby working with advertising agencies.
My love of painting came to the fore whilst raising a family.
Some experiences might seem difficult or negative such as illness, yet I believe even those situations aid us on our journey as my presently living in France adds to my weave of growth. My aim is to achieve paintings that I hope will uplift and with some of my work indeed in a form heal. Whether used as a point from which to lose oneself, perhaps to meditate, or feel alternatively the raising of ones energy through simply the enjoyment of the colours or subject matter.
At my place in the south of France I let people rent the main house for holidays and if they desire give them tailor made art courses.
As witnessed with travelling, I find that some places and moments just seem to evoke peace and calm, at other times the energy of the wind, clouds, or windblown sand and sea spray, bring forth quite a different emotion and therefore painting. The Greek Islands for example, I found inspiring with the olive tree hillside groves, the stretches of barren ground against the azure sea, its visual beauty gave the desire to recreate the still atmospheric dry heat. This compared to the comfortable English rolling Devonshire countryside or the light of the South of France, show that all places hold their own stamp of identity, this I aim to portray.
My work is now across the globe and with this site and my website, I hope to touch even more people and welcome any comments people feel drawn to make. I hope the images are pleasing and uplift.
