Artist Statement I was born in the small town of Solingen, Germany and
our family moved to Winnipeg, Man. in the mid 60’s. Even
at a very young age I had a desire to create things. The
box of Legos and coloured pencils where never too far
from reach. The need for self-expression in my adult life
has led me to painting, which I’ve been actively pursuing
for about 13 years. My early profession as a Draftsperson
taught me perspective and composition; two elements key
to portraying the work I do on canvas. Having been an
avid photographer for as long as I can remember, I rely
mostly on my photos to give me incentive and ideas for a
new project. It’s human nature to try and make sense of
what we see, therefore my approach to a subject matter
is to portray it in a realistic way. The focus is on
balance, simplicity and depth; which are essential to my
work.

Living out here on the coast I seldom reach a dead end in
terms of inspiration. Being both impressed and humbled by
some artist’s work motivates me to improve my craft. The
desire to preserve a special moment or an extraordinary
landscape drives me to put brush to canvas. It is in this
way I hope to communicate my joy of painting.
