Artist Statement As a very small I child I was upset that I was not able to color inside the lines like my friends who were my age could. My mother told me, "Creative people do not color inside the lines." As a child I liked to spend my time drawing stories. My drawings looked like really bad versions of stick figures. I was not able to draw nice pictures like the other kids.

When I was twelve I got one of those doodle art magic marker sets as a gift. You knw they have large preprinted black and white posters and you are supposed to color them in with magic markers. I got bored using the typical colors and mine began to look psycadellic as I began using wild color combinations making weird patterns on my doodle art posters. The posters became boring and I decided tomake my own doodle art with magic markers and blank white papers. In high school I was actually afraid to draw because I knew I couldn't. I spent my high school art classes outside doing really bad pottery.

It wasn't until junior college that I finally took a drawing class. I learned how to see and was blown away at my ability to draw.
