Description SHOOTING STARS UNDER A STORMY SKY by Lynn Bauer - These are not the celestial shooting stars...but, the floral ones! Pretty pink shooting star wildflowers dot the bright green hillside along Highway 58 in front of this lone oak tree. This is a stand-out scene every spring that we have enough rain to produce wildflowers, and I always enjoy photographing it. This year we are experiencing a weather condition referred to as 'El Nino.' El Nino has brought more rain than usual to the central and northern areas of California. The day I traveled this road, I was driving in and out of rainstorms, as can be seen in the dark clouds of this image. Pretty light filtering through adds sparkle to the hills of gold (created by tiny flowers called 'goldfields') and adds great contrast to the storm clouds.California's Highway 58 is a gorgeous scenic drive through some of California's more pastural countryside. This area is located between Shell Creek Road and the western end of the Carrizo Plain. Both of these areas are well known for their gorgeous spring wildflower displays.
