Description Late in the day we encoountered a small group of giraffes with a newborn in Serengeti National Park, Tanzinia. The umbilical cord was still attached! They all looked at us with great interest and seemed very protective of the newest member of their group. Another younger giraffe (most likely a sibling) approached the newborn and licked and nuzzled it.
Ed Novotny, Houston Member Since March 2008 Artist Statement I am an amateur photographer with a passion for wildlife. I have been a volunteer at the Houston zoo for over 15 years and enjoy interacting with the guests and especially showing them live animals. Since I am now retired, my wife and I can travel more, which means more close (but not too close) encounters with nature and more photo ops.
