Artist Statement Tired of not seeing, I placed a camera in front of my eye and started viewing the world around me. I now see subtle shifts in light, the depth of shadows, and nuances of color.
My photos hang on my office, home and friends walls. They speak the words I can not find to describe the beauty I have rediscovered in the world around me.
My friend Tom wrote, "Steve has come so far in a short time. His photography constantly surprises with its charm and insight. He instantly recognizes the art in scenes that the rest of us walk past blindly. I know, I have walked in some of the places he has and, dang, I missed this and I missed that. We should follow his lead -- slow down and really look at things. The good photos will follow."
The camera slows me down. I don't rush past much anymore. I don't look but not see.
I want you to see through my eyes what captures my attention. It often is a common sight, the one we see everyday but fail to notice.
I work with my images to reconstruct what I saw. My effort in post-processing to maximize the camera's ability to capture that moment, sight, or action.
Through my photographs I hope you will see the wonder in what is easily overlooked.
