Artist Statement Dean Lee Uhlinger (1954- )

Dean was trained in the school of experience beginning with his father's camera at the age of 13. Growing up in a southern California beach town (Carlsbad), Dean began shooting local beach scenes and as soon as he could drive, he started making trips to the local desert; Borrego. Dean has had an affinity for the desert southwest landscape dating back to his early years watching old Western movies and TV shows, where the backdrops were landscapes such as Monument Valley and the Alabama Hills of the Eastern Sierras. Photo trips to these places and the Mojave, Sonoran and high desert areas of the Colorado Plateau soon followed. Dean's favorite places to shoot and explore are the National Parks of Utah, (Zion-Bryce-Canyonlands-Arches -Capital Reef).

Dean has shown his work in galleries and contests in California and Oregon; where he currently resides. He continues to do field work all over the west and is currently finishing his second photo/essay book, "Precious Waters, River of Life" a photo-study of the rivers of the west and the need for local and national conservation.

Also, over the last decade Dean has been creating dynamic photo/art, via his 'Mac'.
