Artist Statement Welcome! My name is Samantha Letourneau a.k.a. Sam from The Art of Sam. I majored in art and psychology at UMass Boston and also went to The School of The Museum Of Fine Arts. When choosing a career, I went the psychology route for a while, working in the human services field as a B.A. level social worker helping families and children. I would always find a way to incorporate art into what I was doing. The kids would love to draw pictures with me. I’ve also worked in a homeless shelter and an animal shelter, which was humbling and life changing. Life changing enough that I now want to dedicate myself to helping shelters.
Homeless shelters and animal shelters are full to capacity in the U.S. at a rapidly growing rate during these tough times. I’ve seen what these people and animals go through and it’s not pretty.
I thought to myself, “What can I do to help these people and animals in such need?” So here I am trying to incorporate helping with art. I’d like to sell my art and contribute to society. I want to make a difference through art. What that completely looks like right now in the beginning stages is under development, but it’s an exciting process every day. Right now, I’m in the planning stages of working towards selling prints and having profits go to different homeless shelters and animal shelters in MA and the US. I'm also an eco-conscious individual, so I am still waiting on selling prints until I find the right eco-friendly printer (C'mon, Imagekind! ;) hint, hint... lol!). I’d also like to teach art to homeless children at some point. Somewhere down the line, I will be selling original art.
The Art Of Sam isn’t just about Sam’s Art. It’s also about sharing, connecting, education, discussing, inspiring, and helping through art.
