Artist Statement Linda Haile has been fascinated by art ever since her grandfather drew sketches of his grocery-wagon & horses to quiet down a circle of his grandkids. She was hooked by age five.

After Virginia Tech and VCU, a degree in art education led her into teaching students with special needs for 30+ years—using a wide variety of visual techniques. Now, Linda has returned to her own learning: taking online lessons whenever possible. A local artist, Julie Read, has been one of her biggest influences.

It only took one glass-making class to make Linda a lifelong student of transparent color. She has discovered that watercolor captures glass-like color and light like no other medium. Just as a writer carefully chooses her words to convey a feeling, an artist chooses color and light to convey a visual memory. By studying watercolor, Linda hopes to capture the beauty she sees every day. Lindashares,” I truly appreciate my subjects once I pause to really observe and
paint them.”

Add watercolor’s
uncanny ability to do something unexpected and that is where challenge and
magic meet. Linda was delighted to share some of the beauty she sees in her
first solo art show, “The Magic of Watercolor.”

“Watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you,
Because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places.
Those who don’t believe in the magic will never find it.”—Raoul Dahl
