Description The approach to the thirteeth century church of St. Maunanus in Mawnan Smith, Cornwall. Named for the sixth century Welsh saint, the inscription over the gate is in ancient Cornish: 'Da thym ythyu nesse the Thu', meaning 'It is good to draw near to the Lord'. Although in many ways superceded by the more central church of St. Michaels, built next to the village school in 1876, St. Maunanus remains an attraction for worshippers and visitors, who come to admire the panoramic views over the Helford, and to be reminded of the ancient origins of this beautiful village.
