Description i was walking home one afternoon from getting my car repaired. all i had with me was a 1930s agfa shurshot box camera and some 120 FILM. i wandered the streets i usually drive with this primitive camera wondering what i would find after i developed the film. like most of the film based photographs i post here i processed the roll of KODAK PLUS X in a coffee based developer made from sumatra coffee and other things. i left the film alone on the reel for about 30mins and eventually it developed.i held the shutter open and pointed at the sky, i walked with the birds as they fluttered and drifted like paper in the wind.
John Nanian, Warwick, RI Member Since November 2007 Artist Statement thanks for visiting my imagekind gallery. i am a freelance photographer, but when I am not on assignment i photograph the world around me. sometimes i travel distances, but most of the time i am photographing local things. i am not far from the coast, im not far from providence and i can always find something nearby to photograph. i sometimes make photographic emulsion from scratch, sometimes i use storebought paper and film, sometimes i make photographs using the sun. i use a digital camera too, and from time to time i will make a emulsion based photograph using a digital file. i also make film and paper developer our of coffee. most of the coffee developer i use is from sumatra coffee beans i roast myself. i helped write the caffenol-cookbook, and i was featured in an interview on emulsive.com. i experiment a lot as you might have guessed. thanks again for the visit.
