Artist Statement BEHIND THE LENS:

"Doing what you like is freedom. Liking what you do is happiness." — author unknown

Through photography, I feel both free and happy. And ever since snapping my first shot around the age of six, with a simple Kodak 110 camera, I've been hooked. It became my passion and today is still the best way for me to express myself as a creator, artist and documentor of life and the human condition. Other early inspiration was acquired by my father's interest in film photography, along with the issues of Life and National Geographic that would show up monthly to my childhood home. Since then, I've drawn inspiration from the work of photographers Robert Frank, Walker Evans, Elliott Erwitt, Gordan Parks, Bruce Gilden and many others in the field.

I photograph what captures my attention - people, objects, animals, buildings, places, public events - just about anything. It's simply a gut reaction to whatever is going on around me in any given moment. I look to capture the beauty in truth, using an objective eye and a candid approach to a subject. Especially when shooting the human condition in its most real and raw environment. I work best being unseen or in the background. That way I see my photography as a documentary on the complexities of everyday life, while appreciating its beauty and simplicity. Photography is part of my daily life. I shoot locally, across the country and around the world. I look beyond the obvious to capture a perspective no one else sees at that very time and place. It's truly exciting to wake up every day never knowing what I'll see through my lens next. So take a look around my site. And enjoy the view!

BACKGROUND:
Born in 1968, and life-long resident of Dallas, Texas - the place I call home. Graphic design is my bread and butter, but photography is my freedom and happiness. I find that the two fields work very well together for me. I have a B.F.A. in Visual Communication/Marketing with a minor in Photography from the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas
