Artist Statement ME AS PHOTOGRAPHER

My camera is my single most important tool as an artist. The world is full of wonderment with endless possibilities to explore. I explore the world through the lense of my camera. I find that I use my 55-200mm lense the most. I'm curious about what makes up the world. The big picture is of little concern to me. It's the smaller parts of the larger composition that fascinate me. As such, my images are macros or smaller pieces of the whole. I suppose this is why I'm drawn to mosaics as an art form. Each piece adds something to the whole and has a story to be told.

ME AS MOSAIC ARTIST

As a child I spent hours putting together jigsaw puzzles. I loved searching through the piles of pieces looking for the one that fit. It was an addiction. I wanted bigger puzzles with colorful pictures.

When I was ten a cousin showed me a tile mosaic he was making. It was nirvana. I could make my own puzzles now. They could be as big as I wanted and coud make any picture that came to mind.

Most of my subjects became sports figures. As someone who is athletically uncordinated and had no natural ability to play any sport I was fascinated by those who could. I have always be amazed by what the human body could do. If I couldn't make my body do those things then I could capture that motion in my art.
