Description These photographs from the series 'Public Faces' are exampes of Axel Meyer-Gilde's ongoing research on the image of masculinity in the public realm, and an analysis of how images of men are used in today's media and what image they exactly convey. These photographs are subtly exploring issues of masculinity and sexual exploitation, identity, voyeurism and vulnerability. They are lifted from newspapers and magazines, then carefully manipulated, so to stress their origin as a printed image. Each of them shows an aspect of public masculinity and provides a single view on the image of men.
