Description This is a young African leopard, taken at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo near Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1995 on Fujichrome 100 speed slide film. It is not a very good scan, but to date it is the only African leopard image I have, not sure why but it just is and I accidently happened across the lost file this very evening. If I can ever find the original I will try to create a better rendition.~Tears of glass~Silent, like the snow falling on wispy blades of forgotten weedsTucked deep into the Acacia tree, thorny situation indeedEver watchful of the plains below, dinner may or may not come todayBut there are tiny mouths to feed, the future to secure, pride to be restoredWatching, waiting, the silence is deafeningCrackle, swish, tiny dust devils reveal the headllines in JohannesbergOne fatality, cause of death asphyxiation by broke neckThat neck aint broke, it's crushed, literallyIn nature destruction like this is actually a restoration of life, thus life equals death, thats where the balance comes fromUp into the Acacia tree she climbs with her tawny, crimson stained prizeThey will all be safe and healthy another dayTheir eyes, they're smooth and glistening, a shade of amber so rich, so cleanEach one piercing the dusty haze and scanning the horizonThe fire of the hunter, the survivor, it is so mesmerizing, the heat its palpableTheir eyes, like tears of glass, poured into their souls direct from the sunMundy Hackett10/09/2007
Mundy Hackett, Lanexa, Virginia Member Since July 2007 Artist Statement I am a wildlife ecologist, and I have been serious about wildlife photography for 10+ years. I love to photograph all aspects of the natural world, but my favorite subjects are the felines (wild and domesticated). I have begun to branch out in my nature work, incorporating more involvement of the digital darkroom in creating the types of evocative scenes that sometines only the brush can capture. If you like my work I hope you will spend some time travelling through my diverse gallery offerings, and please by all means feel free to share my work with your family and friends. The more the merrier. I shoot with professional Nikon bodies and lenses and use Photoshop CS. If you would like to see something specific feel free to drop me a line, I love requests. Thank you for taking the time to view my work, it is my pleasure to share the natural wonders of our world with you all, and hopefully I can show it to you in a unique and artistic way that makes you feel closer to it and cherish it more with every passing day!
