Artist Statement Humphrey Isselt was born in 1965 in Paramaribo Surinam. At the age of seven he immigrated to the Netherlands. His passion for drawing and painting started at an early age, while observing nature and people in general. Growing up he expressed himself through painting and drawing. He took art classes at the Augustinus College in Groningen where he learned the basics from J. Poeder. He discovered that the vibrancy of the colors and strokes used by Vincent van Gogh appealed to him. The sculptures of Auguste Rodin also made an impact. Being an observer of live and having a profound understanding of processes and structures he coached people from an early age on. At the age of twenty two his attention shifted towards computers and mobile communication. These became a starting point for his working career. However interesting the IT and mobile communication technology were they did not compare to art. So at the age of forty Humphrey found his passion again in painting, drawing, and sketching.

“Creative art is appealing to me because it is a means to tell a story, change the outcome of and or capture a moment”

In 2010 he quit his job as a Business Consultant to become a full-time individual coach, author and artist. He has published five self
development books and eight art-books between 2010 and 2016. His art is mainly available via the internet through online art galleries as: Saatchi Art, Seesle, Zazzle, Artpal and Fine-Art America.

Humphrey experiments with many different techniques, and utilizes various materials to achieve the desired effect. He enjoys working with acrylic, oil, water-colors and pastels He likes to balance colors, movement, energy and texture in his work. Recently he discovered digital painting combining two worlds. Humphrey’s art is characteristic because it is a mixture of techniques and influences.” I do not paint with a technique in mind, I paint with the object in mind. So the art pretty much creates itself. It evolves like nature is supposed to” Humphrey usually paints women or a suggested feminine presence. He paints women as a representation of love, seduction, beauty, live, strength, warmth, and natural softness. Aside from that he also paints ‘scapes’ (sea, land, air) and animals, because they portrait our precious living environment.

Humphrey wishes to translate his view of live onto every canvas by telling a story with color, shape, and figures. Every stroke is a manifestation of his discoveries, challenges and deep rooted longing for a unified and loving world where people can enjoy the wealth that is available to all of us.
