Artist Statement I remember how my mother used to describe me to the relatives who lived far away: "She's very creative...artistic!" Both of my parents were musical(Mom sang at weddings and in church choirs, Dad was a professional drummer for over 30 years), so it's not a surprise that I am right-brained and prefer the Arts to, say, Math! I was born in Cleveland, OH. My parents moved to Northern CA when I was 4 years old, so, naturally, I tagged along and was raised out West. I can't deny that the 38 years I spent in CA shaped me as much as my parents' influence did. There's a certain California vibe...a sort-of Cali mood that I return to in times of doubt. I can't explain it, but those of you who know what I'm talking about can relate! (The good, the bad and the earthquakes.) I started drawing when I was about 10. I can remember doing a lot of drawing after falling off a horse at a school field trip. I won't say the jolt awakened my inner artist, but maybe the scare helped me focus on what was important to me before I even knew what that was. I had the ability to look at a frame of a cartoon strip and draw it larger. Peanuts was my favorite. In my mid-teens, I began writing poetry and concentrated on doing that for several years. It was a good way to express my angst. Writing was my outlet. In my 20's, I discovered painting. I painted 3 pictures for gifts, and a heart-shaped wooden plaque hung in our livingroom for years. It was a nice hobby at the time. After several years spent taking care of my parents, and living life, with all its ups and downs, I've rediscovered that I was put on this earth to be creative. I am now attempting to channel my artistic side; to find my inner painter(and photographer)again. Hopefully, you will like the results.
