Artist Statement

I paint the things I know and love; the rural landscapes where I like to roam, gardens, everyday still life subjects and people I have encountered.

I make most of my paintings from life. If I am painting a landscape, I like to be in that landscape painting "en plein air". I believe that the sights, the smells, the sounds and how I feel about the day all influence my paintings. If I am working in the studio, I prefer to work from a live model or my own still life setup.

Studying art has become a lifelong quest. I started out with a major in Fine Art from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Time spent at the Art Student's League in New York City added to my skills and perceptions. Since then have taken many workshops from artists who admire¬¬¬¬

Other chapters of my life as an artist might be called: Portait Painting for living, Painting and Teaching Watercolor and Back to Oil Painting.
Some recent accomplishments have been "Best of Show" for my painting, The Slough, at a plein air competition and my painting, Childhood, being selected for Oil Painters of America Juried Salon Show of Traditional Oils, 2013.

My husband John and I spend half of the year in Wisconsin and half the year in New Zealand. Many of my paintings depict this beautiful country.

If I can help you, the viewer, to sense the atmosphere and light of a particular moment or to be aware of the simple beauty all around you, then I have accomplished my goal as an artist.
