Artist Statement February, 2006….Southern California on fire again, flames being fanned by Santa Ana Winds…The same winds and fire that bring destruction inland, inspire beauty to the west…ash, dust particles and pollution combine with the ocean air to make beautiful sunsets. The color and experience is difficult to describe – easier to paint.
Mike Collins is a psychotherapist by trade…and from his office overlooking the Pacific Ocean he watches the sun set every day. The combination of color and beauty, coupled with his own therapeutic style, DARED him to paint. Mike usually paints on canvas, but also enjoys taking old paintings and posters out of people’s garbage cans and seeing if he can’t do a little artistic recycling.
Mike’s wife is nice. She rolls her eyes when he brings home the “garbage”, but happily lives with the scribbles of his inner child filling their walls.
Painting is easy, you should do it too.
