Kiera Place, Providence Member Since February 2011 Artist Statement Kiera Place graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 2008, with a B.A in Studio Art and a minor in Art History. She studied many different mediums, but concentrated in photography. Kiera has loved the art of photography for as long as she can remember; the smell of the film, the feel of the camera, and the anticipation that comes with each exposed negative. Kiera loves color and texture, the relationship between light and shadow, and the wide array of emotions that photography can be inspired by but also evoke in others. In recent years she has been very interested in process and how it effects the outcome of the image. Kiera strictly shoots film for her own work, with no digital alterations or manipulations other than minimal contrast correction and dust/scratch removal. She primarily shoots with her Holga and her 35mm SLR, though she also likes to use her Polaroid Land Camera and her home-made match box pin-holes. Each camera has a different effect, and these effects lend themselves to the subject that Kiera is shooting.
