Artist Statement Hi, welcome to Dodidoes' studio! I am a mineral material painter, graduated from Fine art department, Xiamen University as MFA.

In recent years I mainly focus on mineral material painting(it's called Modern Japanese painting in some countries).

4000 years ago mineral material painting was born in southern Asia. Indic monks used nature mineral particles as color sources, animal glue and gelatin as media. They often gave their whole lives to a single mural in the dark caves. It was highly developed in far east with the spread of Buddhism and incoperated many national elements. Today in DunHunag (Gansu,China), Yongle Palace (Shanxi,China), Kitora Grave (Nara, Japan), visitors are often surprised by those ancient pictures: even some rockface are chap and have flaked off, but pictures still come in an exciting range of colors. Metal foils flash in the gap of mineral particles, make the murals breathing and rich in layers.

Today mineral material painting is not for religion only, modern skills and ideas has enriched its expressive forces and forms. For me, its strong graphic and decorative effects attract me mostly. In 2006, when I left Xiamen, a crowded Chinese city and dropped by Monterey, I had been studying mineral material painting for 2 years but could never ever touch the "soul" of it. When I arrived Monterey dock, a quiet and peaceful picture suddenly hit me. At that moment I realized that the harmony between our hearts and nature, is what people are looking after and missing. This spirit, is exactly what the ancient monks expressed while I didn't.

My main working experiences were:
