Yuliya Singó, San Francisco
Member Since September 2008
Artist Statement Yuliya Singó was born in Kiev, Ukraine and raised in the Russian Far East in the port city of Vladivostok. In 1997, her family immigrated to Minneapolis, United States, where Yuliya lived for 11 years. In 2008, she moved to San Francisco -- the place where she found a home for her soul and inspiration for her creative work.

Since Yuliya's early school years, she was mostly interested in math and science; in 2005 she received a BS degree in Economics and Management from the University of Minnesota. Yuliya have had limited professional exposure to art, until she got a chance to study in Rome, Italy in the year 2000. Since then, Yuliya's interest for math and science was overpowered by her passion for Art. Later, she took several art courses at the University of Minnesota to gain basic knowledge about painting. She was very fortunate to have the opportunity to study under a nationally acclaimed artist, Herman Rowan. Nevertheless, Yuliya considers herself to be a self-taught artist.

The content of Yuliya Singh's work is derived from self-analysis, her perception of the surrounding world, dreams and mystical experiences. She uses colors, images and textures as an attempt to express thoughts and to convey emotion. Yuliya’s extensive travels around the world, studies of world cultures, religions and several languages clearly reflect in her work. Every piece of her art has a unique story to tell fulfilled with symbolic representations, bynary oppositions, emotional connections with the subject, and desire to share her moving experiences with the viewer.

Yuliya's favorite subjects are surrealism, expressionism, and impressionism. She admires the works of Salvador Dali, Henri Matisse and Yang Yang.
