Artist Statement Bill Dalton a long time native of New Jersey whose passion for protecting the state’s environment is equaled only by his desire to capture that environment through the lens of a camera. His images show a unique understanding of the nature’s beauty whether a delicate bird captured in flight or a breathtaking landscape.
During an interview for a prestigious environmental publication, that published a feature story about Bill’s life, he was asked about the origins of his interest in wildlife and nature, he replied, “it’s in my genes.”
Bill’s commitment to the environment continued through his early years when in 1969 he founded along, with several other ecological pioneers, founded one of the first grass-roots environmental organizations in New Jersey to study and advocate for clean water programs and enforcement. Citizens Against Water Pollution was founded before The United States Environmental Protection Agency was formed. It also pre-dated most state environmental agencies.
Bill studied liberal arts in college and obtained his Master’s Degree in Environmental Policy and Planning from Rutgers and the University of Manchester, England.
Bill has had a diverse career from the United States Senate, where he served as Director of Special Projects, to serving as mayor of the town in which he currently resides. He continues to be active in many environmental causes.
Photography as a means of capturing images of natural landscapes and nature is uniquely displayed in Bill’s work. His beautiful images of birds seem to capture their soul. His landscapes reflect the beauty in nature at special moments and places. He has traveled to remote locations in nearly all the continents.
His work has been published in many respected magazines including, Kaatskill Life, New Jersey Audubon, Blue Mountain Press, The Jersey Shoreline, Peregrine Observer, The Underwater Naturalist and The Cornell Lab of Ornithology .
