Description Denton Municipal Electric donated a manhole (climbing pit) for emergency lineworker rescue purposes. It is open on one side for other students to view the activity and action on the top entry and lower portions. It is made entirely of reinforced concrete and is barely visible in this particular photo. See the other photos for detailed images of the interior and outside appearance of this facility, which illustrates the cable entries and exits and the large size which would enclose network protectors, cable splicing, switching and other equipment. This is defined as 'underground' since ducts are run to this unit from handholes and other conduits. 'Buried' implies that the cables are not enclosed in ductwork, but are direct burial without conduits, and equipment may be directly buried in the soil.
