Our name -- GeMS -- is an acronym for our family: George, Mary, and Stephanie. Mary and Steph are the gems, I'm more like one of those stones that get caught in your shoe on a long hike.

After spending 30 years in the military and law enforcement, I have decided to make the jump into selling my photographs.

One of the things I learned almost immediately, is that making the transition from hobby to "pro" forces you to focus (no pun intended) on your art and really strive for excellence, rather than settling for merely "good."

I have found over time that what I once thought was "good" in my own work, is no longer acceptable to my own eye. I suppose this will always be so as I continue to learn, refine my skills, and develop the "eye" to hopefully capture "great," rather than simply "good" photographs.

In the meantime, I'm hanging on to my day job.
