The first thing I ever really took time to paint was a reproduction of Salvador Dali’s “Meditative Rose”. It was an art class in my senior year of high school, and my only prior training had included mimicking my grandmother’s watercolors and being adopted by a a group of graffiti artists a few years prior. I fell in love with the fluidity and color of paint. I can barely draw, but I can mold shapes from tubes of color, and that’s all I can really ask for. Painting calms me. It is the only activity I have that makes my mind clear entirely.
