Artist Statement DanaShantell Mckinney is an artist who specializes in capturing the human spirit through her art—She hacommented on the fact that many of her paintingsof people have no distinct facial features because she, instead, likes to embody the “inner essence” of the person. Her inspiration varies from music and dance to color, sports---the creative and celebratory aspects of the human experience.
Dana’s works are full of vibrant color and reflect a fluidity and movement, which reminds one of music and dance. Dana’s ebullient and effervescent personality is reflected in her work, which imparts a feeling of joy in life. Many of her paintings include figures that appear to transcend racial lines and the absence of distinct facial features embodies the idea that, as humans, we are all as one.
