Description The brightness of white contrasts well with a relatively dull blue shade. This contrast is well shown in water colours. The picture portrays a very strange cultural dimension of India. The widow in the picture is 'UNFORTUNATE'. Owing to poverty, she is married her to a sextagenarian at a very tender age and by the time she reached an age of 21-22, her husband died. Widows are treated as outcasts in India as late as until 20th century. They only have to use white clothes. The are not allowed to go outside. Re-marriage was out of question. Great social reformers like Gurajada Apparao & Raja Ram Mohan Roy revolted against such evil cultural practices to reform and orchestrate today's modern India.
